5K Fugitive Run, August 13, 2012

On April 28, 2012 the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office will be holding its 4th annual "Cumberland County Sheriff's 5-K Fugitive Run" in Gorham. In an effort to promote community involvement and interaction, as well as raising money for a charitable cause, the Sheriff's Office has continued this exciting road racing initiative.

This event will provide many of the amenities found at other large road races and will attract both runners and walkers alike. The race will have strong public safety participation, with the presentation of the "Sheriff's Cup" to the public safety agency (police, fire/rescue, corrections) with the best cumulative finishing times (minimum of 3 runners to qualify for trophy). Awards will also be given to the top 2 civilian male and female finishers in 8 different age categories, as well as the top 5 Public Safety male and female finishers. Runners who "Capture the Fugitive" will also receive a special prize.

Last year's race had over 130 runners participate. With the help of our race sponsors, the Sheriff's Office donated nearly $2,000.00 to our 2011 race charity, "The Center for Grieving Children".

In 2012, the Sheriffs Office has selected the Police Athletic League as its charitable organization. The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office conducts a fundraiser every year in order to assist local schools and other youth sports teams in Cumberland County with purchasing sports equipment, funding for travel for competitions and upgrading sports complexes. This program was initiated in 2001, and has raised over $45,000 for various organizations in the community. Upon receiving a request for financial assistance, Sheriff Joyce asks the team to participate in a community service event or provide some assistance to our elderly population in return for the monetary donation.

The Sheriff's Office is asking for your financial support this year to assist with the costs of directing our race. Simply put, we cannot do it without you! Last year's event was a big success. Please join us and help raise money for a critical local cause.

Enclosed is a solicitation package, including the race brochure and a solicitation reply form. Please feel free to join us on race day and encourage your employees to participate in the race event as well.

I will follow-up this letter with a phone call to answer any questions you may have. I would also be more than happy to meet with you in person to discuss this event. Your time and consideration is greatly appreciated.
