5K Fugitive Run, April 27, 2013
CCSO 5K Road Race
On April 27, 2013 at 10am the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office held its Fifth Annual " 5K Fugitive Run" in Gorham, Maine. This 3.1 mile USATF certified course travels through the Gorham Village area, starting and finishing at the Gorham Municipal Center (USATF # ME110002JK). The goal of this race is to promote community involvement and interaction, as well as raising money for a local charitable organization.
The event provided many of the amenities found at large road races and attracts both runners and walkers alike. The race held a strong public safety participation, with the presentation of the "Sheriff's Cup" to the public safety agency (police, fire/rescue, corrections, prosecutors) with the best cumulative finishing times (minimum of 3 runners to qualify for trophy).
"Fugitive trophies" were also given to the top 2 civilian finishers in 8 different age categories, including a cash prize to the overall male and female race winners. Awards are also given to the top 5 public safety male and female runners.
In addition to these awards, a special prize was offered to those runners who "Capture the Fugitive," courtesy of our friends at Dunkin' Donuts! Those runners who crossed the finish line before our "fugitive" were rewarded with a commendation from the Sheriff.
The 5K Fugitive Run also included a Free Kids Fun Run! The Fun Run starts at 9:30 and is a one-mile course. All participants received a racing bib and a competitor's medal.
This year was a huge success! Thank you to all who sponsored, participated and/or took part in this annual event!
