The Civil Division is responsible for serving all civil process in Cumberland County. Divorce summonses, eviction paperwork, civil subpoenas and small claims paperwork are a few examples of the documents that we serve.
The Civil Division staff is comprised of 4 full-time and 6 per-diem staff members. The full time personnel are committed to serving civil process paperwork for the communities of Portland, South Portland, Cape Elizabeth, Westbrook, Scarborough, Windham, and the Casco Bay Islands. The per-diem staffers provide service to the remaining Cumberland County communities not mentioned above.
During 2007, the Civil Division received 9,094 process papers for service. This yielded a 12.4% increase in overall workload compared to the previous year. These figures do NOT include the civil process papers assigned to the per diem staff members.
