The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office Evidence Laboratory and Forensic Investigations employs many of the latest technological advances including digital photography and alternate light source trace evidence identification. The Crime Scene Investigator responds to major crime scenes to include high profile commercial and residential burglaries, suspicious death scenes, fatal motor vehicle crashes, and most felony crimes against people (Sexual assaults, aggravated assaults, homicides).

The evidence technician is responsible for the collection, preservation, and the proper documentation of evidence collected during a criminal investigation. The Sheriff's Office evidence technician has received specialized training in the following areas:

After the physical evidence is collected the evidence technician is responsible for maintaining proper continuity during transportation, examination, and storage of the evidence.
