School Resource Deputies

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office has two School Resource Officers (SRO’s)deputies assigned to schools throughout Cumberland County.

The deputies are assigned on a permanent basis to two area high schools, one deputy is assigned to the Bonny Eagle High School which has an average daily student population of 1,300, while the second is assigned to Gray-New Gloucester High/Middle School which has a combined average daily population of 1,220 students.

During the 2007 school year, the School Resource Officers were instrumental in helping to deter violent acts and drug/criminal activity in the schools.

The SRD’s also were challenged with the continual efforts to improve the overall safety of the staff and student population, while acting as a liaison between students and the patrol deputies assigned to the geographic area that the school is located in.

At Gray-New Gloucester Middle School, the Deputy spends a great deal of the energies teaching classes on bullying, harassment and anger management.
