Mission Statement of the Cumberland County Jail

“To provide a healthy, safe, secure, humane and cost effective environment in which to detain persons alleged or convicted of crimes.”

Purpose

The purpose of the county jail is to house adult male and female inmates deemed to be a threat or danger to society until such time as their charges are adjudicated.

Facts about the Jail

The corrections Division is comprised of 200 staff members to include over 130 Corrections Officers, 16 Supervisors and 60 Support Staff for care, custody and control over 500 inmates.

The Administration at the jail is comprised of 2 Captains that supervise the Food Service Manager, 5 Lieutenants, who in turn supervise 6 Sergeants and 5 Corporals on three shifts.

The Sheriff’s Office contracts medical services through CMS (Correctional Medical Services) comprised of 25-30 employees. Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is the only jail in the state with 24 hour a day medical coverage.

The Food Service Department is comprised of a Food Service Manager and 5 full time cooks, who in turn utilizes inmate labor to assist in preparation of nutritionally balanced meals serving in excess of 1500 meals daily.
