Citizen Oriented Policing School 2012
The Regional Law Enforcement Collaborative will be conducting a Citizen Oriented Policing School starting Thursday, March 1, 2012. This is an eight week program, held each Thursday from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. The locations of the individual class sessions will be at the South Portland Police Department, Scarborough PD or the Cape Elizabeth Fire Station. A schedule of class topics and locations will be provided to accepted applicants. The following is a list of topics addressed during the eight week program:

- Juvenile Justice
- Community Policing
- Dealing with the Mentally Ill

- Patrol Procedures
- Criminal Investigations
- Use of Force

The C.O.P.S. program is intended to be an overview of the functions and operations of law enforcement personnel. Participants will not be trained as police officers. Class size is limited; and will be filled on a first-come basis. All applicants must be at least 18 years of age and participants must attend seven class sessions to pass the C.O.P.S. program.
A background check will be performed on ALL applicants. Applicants with felony convictions or extensive criminal backgrounds will not be accepted.
