Canine Unit

Responsibilities

The Cumberland County Sheriff 's Office is equipped with 3 expertly trained canine teams, all certified through the Maine Criminal Justice Academy. All 3 teams are trained in tracking, building sweeps, evidence and article searches, officer protection, and suspect apprehension.

The teams not only serve the citizens of Cumberland County, but respond to requests for assistance from other law enforcement agencies throughout Southern Maine.

Meet the Teams

  • Deputy Matt Tufts and Canine Rocky are 3-year team veterans. They are certified in narcotics detection along with the tracking, protection and apprehension certification.
  • Deputy Al Winslow and Canine Ruk graduated the Maine Criminal Justice Academy on June 14, 2013.
  • Deputy Cory Plummer and Canine Vegas also graduated the Maine Criminal Justice Academy on June 14, 2013.
