Crisis Intervention

The Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) was originally designed as a police-based prebooking jail diversion program with the goal of diverting persons with mental illness away from incarceration, and to the resources that can really help them.

The Cumberland County Jail utilizes CIT Officers to de-escalate situations with inmates in distress that are housed in the facility, new arrests, and those transferred here from other facilities.
