[ARCHIVED] Fatal Crash - Gray, ME (9/29/18)

Incident Location: Route 26A and Route 26, Gray

On the above date and approximate time, the Sheriff’s Office responded, along with Gray Fire/ Rescue, to a two-vehicle crash on Route 26A. The initial investigation determined that an orange 2011 Can-Am Spyder driven by Bruce E. Smith, a 56-year-old male from Standish, was traveling north on Shaker Road (Route 26). The Can-Am failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Route 26A. The Can-Am continued into the intersection and struck a black Ford F-350, that was traveling south on Route 26A. The driver of the truck, Ryan Glidden 37 years of age from Gray. was not injured. Bruce Smith was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

Smith was not wearing a helmet. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor. The crash is being reconstructed by the Sheriff’s Office.
