On Monday, November 05, 2018 at 2016 hours, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Frye Island Ferry for a vehicle that accidentally drove off the end of the ferry. The ferry was on the Frye Island side at the time and was in the process of loading vehicles to bring them back to the mainland.
Dennis Feeney, age 64 from Westbrook drove his white 2016 Mercedes onto the Ferry. Mr. Feeney failed to put his vehicle in park and the vehicle went forward, off the ferry, and into the water. Mr. Feeney was in the vehicle at the time along with his two dogs. The vehicle became completely submerged, however Mr. Feeney was able to get out of the vehicle on his own and swim to the surface. The two dogs did not survive.
Efforts to remove the vehicle from the lake will occur during daylight hours.
Mr. Feeney was evaluated by Raymond Rescue and later transported to Mercy Hospital.
