Incident Synopsis:    

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s responded to Hills Way located off Harpswell Islands Road in Harpswell to assist with an incident that involved a Commercial Wrecker having gone into the Ocean.

The Wrecker owned and operated by Harold Gray of Bowdoin, Maine had been in the process of the delivery a dock system to the property waterfront. The ground gave way and the wrecker plunged into the Ocean. The wrecker was submerged and was later removed by Copp Motors of Cumberland.

No one was injured as a result of this incident. The Department of Environmental Protection was contacted and notified of the incident and did not respond as there was no known discharge of fuel or other hazardous materials.

There are no charges pending regarding this matter and damage to the wrecker and or the property will be dealt with by private insurance carriers.
