Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Taking
Proactive Steps Against Threat of COVID-19
Amidst the global outbreak of COVID-19, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office has begun the implementation of proactive measures that are designed to prevent potential exposure of the virus to staff and the men and women in Sheriff’s Office care and custody.
The Sheriff’s Office is monitoring the evolving COVID-19 situation closely, and, thus far, there have been a limited but growing number of COVID-19 cases in Maine. As of March 13th, there was 2 presumptive case in Maine.
In accordance with state guidelines and recommendations, the Sheriff’s Office is taking steps to minimize the possible exposure to staff and inmates and detainees, and to maintain a safe work place by reviewing, and where necessary, adopting new practices to protect the health of all employees and inmates while we continue to perform the Sheriff’s Office mission.
Effective immediately there will be a temporary suspension of inmate and detainee visits including visits at the Community Corrections Center, as well as Programs provided by outside parties. Additionally, there will be a temporary suspension of fingerprinting services to the general public. Attorneys will continue to have access to Cumberland County Jail facilities for client visits. Attorneys will be granted non-contact only visits.
