On August 7, 2020 at approximately 2348 hours, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Naples and Casco Fire Departments, responded to a single vehicle crash on Kansas Road in Naples near the intersection of Roosevelt Trail. Upon arrival, a 2003 Honda Civic was located off the road into a tree. The vehicle had sustained significant damage.
The operator, Jordan Scarpa, 20 years old of Raymond, was driving her Honda Civic westbound on Roosevelt Trail and had just taken a right turn onto Kansas Rd. Scarpo. Due to excessive speed during the turn, Scarpa immediately lost control of the vehicle and went off the road into a tree. She was seriously injured and transported to Bridgton Hospital for evaluation. She was later transferred to Central Maine Medical Center via helicopter.
A passenger in the vehicle, Hunter Anthony-Norman Jordan, 20 years old of Gray, suffered life-threatening injuries and was extricated from the vehicle by Naples Fire Department using the Jaws of Life. To complicate matters, Fire Department personnel also had to use a chain saw to remove trees to allow access to the passenger’s side. Hunter was taken to Bridgton Hospital and also transferred to Central Maine Medical Center via helicopter.
The crash remains under investigation and is being reconstructed by members of the Sheriff’s Office and Windham Police Department. The Bridgton Police Department has also provided assistance with this investigation. Speed was a clear contributing factor to this crash. Investigators are also looking into whether other factors, including alcohol was a factor to this crash.
