On August 20, 2020 at approximately 530 pm, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Standish fire/rescue department, responded to a two vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 35 and White’s Bridge Road in Standish.
Upon arrival, it was learned that John Huston age 51 of Limington was operating a 1997 Harley Davidson motorcycle which was heading south and stopped behind a tractor-trailer at the traffic light. William English, age 78 of Windham was operating a 2016 Infinity which was heading north and stopped at the traffic light to make a left-hand turn onto White’s bridge Road. When the light turned green, Mr. English started to make his left hand turn in front of the tractor-trailer. The motorcyclist came around the right side of the tractor-trailer to go straight and struck the car in the intersection.
The driver of the car and his wife Frances were not injured in the crash. One of Mr. Houston’s legs was amputated upon impact with the vehicle. He was transported to Maine Medical Center by Standish rescue.
The crash remains under investigation by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. The crash is being reconstructed by members of Windham Police Department.
