On the above date and Deputies from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a motor vehicle due to the suspicion of Operating Under the Influence on I-95 South Bound. The vehicle, a black Toyota Camry, stopped initially. It was occupied by 3 males. The operator provided a fake name and when asked to exit the vehicle he fled the scene.
While the vehicle was initially driving away the male in the rear passengers seat attempted to get out of the vehicle. He was dragged for a moment and eventually freed himself from the vehicle. Deputies ensured he was ok and directed him to wait on the shoulder. He was apparently located by a motorist and was given a ride from the scene. He has not been identified.
The fleeing vehicle continued southbound at speeds over 115 MPH. The suspect vehicle attempted to negotiate the exit 53 off ramp and lost control, striking the embankment and landing on its roof. The male operator was ejected from the vehicle and the male passenger was entrapped. Deputies were able to free the passenger, of Lewiston and was evaluated at the scene and released with no injuries
The male operator was not identified until he reached Maine Medical Center where his identification was confirmed using booking information from previous arrests. He is identified as ABDIAZIZ DAHIR 28 years old of Portland. He is being treated for non-life threatening injuries. A loaded firearm was located among the debris when the vehicle was flipped back over.
Maine State Police are reconstructing the crash. The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating any criminal activity related to the chase. Exit 53 was shut down for several hours.
At this time ABDIAZIZ is charged with: Operating After Suspension, OAS, Driving to Endanger, Failure to Provide Correct Name.
