Release Date:  June 15th, 2021

Release Time: 10:30 PM

On June 15th, 2021 at approximately 3:58 PM, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and Standish Fire/EMS were dispatched to the area of Harmon’s Hill Road and Richville Road in Standish for a 78-year-old female who was lost in the woods.  The elderly female had a cell phone, however, the battery was almost dead.

Crews were in the area within minutes and due to inclement weather conditions, additional resources were requested from the Maine Warden Service.  The Cumberland County Communications Center was able to use 911 mapping to determine an area of the woods to search, based on the last known location of the caller.

Deputies using a K9 and an unmanned aerial vehicle were deployed to the area.  K9 Cooper located the female, approximately 200 yards into the woods and she was uninjured.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind people to be prepared for their excursions.  Having the proper clothing, footwear and hydration is imperative and may save your life.  Always tell someone where you intend to be, what time you intend to return and have an idea of the terrain in which you are traveling.
