Incident Date: June 20th 2021

Incident Time: 7:03pm

Incident Location: Hodsdon Road, Pownal

Release Date: June 21st 2021

Release Time: 3:30pm

On June 20th, 2021 at approximately 7:03 pm, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and Pownal Fire Department responded to the area of 527 Hodsdon Road in Pownal for a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, the Pownal Fire Department discovered a pickup truck had crashed into a tree. The sole occupant was ejected upon impact and was deceased.

The investigation revealed that 36 years old, Steven McKAY of Pownal was operating his 2008 Nissan Titan pickup truck at a high rate of speed. He lost control on a corner, left the roadway, and struck a tree. Steven suffered fatal injuries in the crash.

Maine State Police as well as Pownal Fire Department assisted the Cumberland County Sheriff’s office at the scene. Speed appears to be the cause of the crash.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office offers their condolences to the friends and family of McKay and wishes to remind Maine drivers of the dangers of driving too fast. Tragic deaths like this can easily be avoided by always following the speed limit and wearing your seatbelt.
