On the above date and time, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, along with Standish Fire and EMS, responded to the Richville Road (Route #114) in Standish at the entrance to the Family and Friend’s Campground for a motor vehicle crash.

The investigation revealed that Danielle Doyle (30) of Waterboro was preparing to turn left into the Family and Friends Campground from the Richville Road.

Charles Hawkins (38) of Windham, was traveling behind Doyle and did not see her stopped. Hawkins 2020 Jeep Wrangler struck Doyle’s 2012 Camry in the rear causing totaling damage.

Doyle is an employee of the State of Maine Department of Health and Human Services and had three minor children in State Custody in the vehicle with her ages nine (9), seven (7) and six (6).

Doyle along with the three juvenile children were transported to Maine Medical Center for minor injuries and precautionary evaluations.

Hawkins was not injured. All involved were properly restrained by use of safety belts and a car seat. A crash of this nature underscores the importance of properly installed safety seats and the use of safety restraints (seatbelts).

The crash resulted from what is commonly referred to as “Distracted Driving”.

Hawkins was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle while using a handheld electronic device or mobile telephone which is a traffic infraction.
