On the above date and time, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and Gray Fire/EMS responded to Lewiston Road (Route #100) at the intersection with the Mayall Road for a Motor Vehicle Crash. The crash resulted in significant property damage to both vehicles. Both driver’s escaped the wreckage suffering only minor injuries that were evaluated and treated on scene.

A 2015 Volkswagen Jetta, operated by a 17-year-old male of Yarmouth failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection.

A 2006 Ford Pickup Truck operated by Steven Dee, 62 years old of New Gloucester was traveling North on Lewiston Road (Route #100) and was struck broadside by the Volkswagen Jetta.

Driver inattention/distraction and failure to stop at a stop sign have been determined to be the cause of the crash. The driver of the Jetta, a Juvenile was operating a motor vehicle on interim license while using electronic device or mobile telephone.

The Punishment for Operating a Motor Vehicle on an interim license using electronic device or mobile phone is a $385.00 fine and license Suspension. Additionally, those not having an interim license are subject to a first time offense of $85.00 with the fines increasing to $625.00 for second and subsequent offenses.
